Call for Protest Rally
March 22 @ 9:00 am - 2:30 pm
Oromo Community Organization of Washington DC
Subject: Invitation to a Peaceful Protest Rally in Washington DC
To All Oromo Communities in North America,
In order to be the voice for our people who are suffering from the tyrannical rule of the TPLF led Ethiopian government, and to reaffirm our solidarity with them, the OCO will hold a peaceful protest rally in Washington DC on March 22, 2018 from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM. The peaceful protest rally begins in front of the U.S. Capitol at 9:00 AM, and then continues to U.S. Department of State, ending at the Lafayette Park in front of the White House about 2:30 PM.
As we all know, the Oromo people are suffering severe human rights violations by the TPLF led Ethiopian government just for demanding their human rights to be respected. The dictatorial regime has brutally killed thousands of innocent Oromo, jailed hundreds of thousands indefinitely without charges, and robbed innumerable properties of the people. Since the current regime took power in 1991, it has been continuously committing crimes against humanity against our people.
Currently, the TPLF led Ethiopian government has waged an unwarranted state of emergency escalating its brutality against our people. The regime’s security and military forces have been dispatched throughout Oromia, taking over administration duties, and imposing a military rule. Since the latest state of emergency was put in place as declared by the cabinet ministers in February 2018, the Ethiopian military rule has killed dozens of innocent Oromo civilians; among which are father and on, a 12 year boy, an educator, students, and people of all walks of life. In the most recent massacre, thirteen civilians were killed and more than dozens were wounded when the Agazi forces of the TPLF led Ethiopian Government opened fire on civilians in Borena district, Moyale town located along Ethio-Kenya border in Southern Oromia, Ethiopia.
The Oromo Community Organization of Washington DC condemns with strongest terms such a barbaric and inhuman acts perpetrated against our people by the TPLF led Ethiopian Government; and invites all Oromo in North America to join the peaceful protest rally and condemn the atrocities of the TPLF led Ethiopian government.
The rally would make stops at the following locations:
- The U.S. Capitol
- U.S. Department of State
- The White House
Standing in Solidarity with Our People,
